Komárom városának gyönyörű látképe szerényen, de határozottan húzódik meg a háttérben, méltó keretet biztosítva a nagy történelmi mozzanatnak. Az 1848 decemberétől 1849 szeptemberéig tartó komáromi ostrom a szabadságharc kulcsfontosságú eseménye volt. Klapka György vezetésével a védők a végsőkig kitartottak, és több mint egy hónappal túlélték a világosi fegyverletételt is. Komárom volt az egész 1848-as európai forradalmi hullám legutolsó bástyája, amely kapitulált.

The beautiful cityscape of Komárom stretches modestly yet firmly in the background, setting a worthy scene for this momentous historical chapter. The Siege of Komárom, lasting from December 1848 to September 1849, was a pivotal event of the War of Independence. Led by György Klapka, the defenders held out to the very end, persisting for more than a month even after the surrender at Világos. Komárom stood as the final bastion of the entire European revolutionary wave of 1848 to eventually capitulate.
The title is provided in four languages (German, Hungarian, Italian, and Czech) along the four sides of the image. The print is plate number 50 from the second part of Anton Ziegler’s Vaterländische Bilder-Chronik aus der Geschichte des österreichischen Kaiserstaates (Patriotic Pictorial Chronicle from the History of the Austrian Imperial State), published by Benko in Vienna, 1850. This second part contains a description of the 1848–1849 events in Hungary, illustrated with 28 cityscapes (including Buda, Buda and Pest, Bratislava, Prague, Vienna, Belgrade, Trieste, Graz, Innsbruck, etc.), as well as 56 historical genre scenes and battle paintings.
