Görgei sebesülése és a nyári hadjárat egyik legfontosabb összecsapása, a július 2-i komáromi csata Katzler-féle ábrázolásánál a magyarok iránti rokonszenv csillan meg, ahogy az alkotó több más képe is magyar szemszögből láttatja az eseményeket. In Katzler’s depiction of Görgei’s wounding and of one of the most important battles of the summer campaign—the Battle of Komárom on July 2—a sense of sympathy for the Hungarians shines through, just as several of the artist’s other paintings present the events from a Hungarian perspective.
The title is provided in four languages (German, Hungarian, Italian, and Czech) along the four sides of the image. The print is plate number 48 from the second part of Anton Ziegler’s Vaterländische Bilder-Chronik aus der Geschichte des österreichischen Kaiserstaates (Patriotic Pictorial Chronicle from the History of the Austrian Imperial State), published by Benko in Vienna, 1850. This second part contains a description of the 1848–1849 events in Hungary, illustrated with 28 cityscapes (including Buda, Buda and Pest, Bratislava, Prague, Vienna, Belgrade, Trieste, Graz, Innsbruck, etc.), as well as 56 historical genre scenes and battle paintings.
