Két jelentős bibliográfiatörténeti mű első kiadása:

Lomeier a könyvtárak történetéről és azok szervezeti felépítéséről szóló jelentős művének első kiadása a bibliai időktől egészen a megjelenés koráig, amely magában foglal egy kiváló tanulmányt a korszak legjobb könyvtárairól is. További fejezetei a könyvek ellenségeivel, híres könyvtárosokkal, valamint különböző releváns történelmi szerzőktől átvett – részben görög nyelvű – anekdotákkal foglalkoznak. Lomeier (1636–1699) Zutphen lelkészeként tevékenykedett.

Ezen első olasz irodalmi és bibliográfiai peiodika első két részének első kiadása; a jelen példányban egy vitatott megítélésű teológus kivágott ajánlólevelével. Az ajánlólevél (melynek fénymásolata a kötetbe van helyezve) Enrico Norisnak (1631–1704) szól, a 'Historia Pelagiana' szerzőjének, aki ebben a művében Ágoston kegyelemtanáról értekezett az anti-jansenista vita közepette. A több kiadást megért könyv megjelentetését Franciaországban nem engedélyezték, Spanyolországban pedig az inkvizíció ítélte el. Itáliában is számos fenyegetés érte, azonban érdemi következmények nélkül. Giovanni Cinelli Calvoli (1625–1706), a firenzei Magliabecchi-kör belső tagja, valamint Torricelli és Viviani tanítványa, krónikus szegénysége és csődjei miatt számos projektjét befejezetlenül hagyta. A jelen sorozat (összesen 18 scanzia) kiadástörténete mondhatni anarchikus volt: a későbbi kötetek korábban jelentek meg, mint a megelőzőek, és szinte minden nagyobb itáliai városban nyomtattak belőlük egyet-egyet.

2 mű egy kötetben, kis octavo (151 x 93 mm). Antikva és kurzív betűtípus. (1) *8 A-X8 Y4: 180 levél; (2) A1 A4-8 B-F8 (az A4 tévesen A3-nak jelezve): 46 levél (a 48-ból: az A2-3 fénymásolata mellékelve); A-G8: 56 levél. A címlapon fanyomatú nyomdászjelvény, fanyomatú díszes iniciálé és tipográfiai fejléc. Helyenként enhye barnulás.

Példányunk érdekessége a végigkövethetó proveniencia: Az elülső kötéstábla belső oldalán a Plettenberg és az Esterházy de Galántha családok egyesített címere látható a XIX. század végéről, a westfáliai Nordkirchen kastélyból. Ferdinand de Plettenberg grófnak a Münster melletti Nordkirchen kastélyában volt híres magánkönyvtára. Leszármazottja, Maria de Plettenberg-Mietingen grófnő (1809–1861) 1833-ban ment feleségül galánthai gróf Esterházy Miklós Ferenchez (1804–1885), Forchtenstein örökös grófjához, aki császári és királyi kamarás, valamint a bécsi Birodalmi Tanács tagja volt. A család három fiával együtt többek között Bécsben és a Nordkirchen kastélyban lakott.

Reiss & Auvermann, 47. árverés, 1992. április 7., 37. tétel — H.P. Kraus, 197/123. Thomas Kimball Brooker ex librisével (mellékelve, de nincs beragasztva). Vásárolva 1994-ben a New York-i H.P. Kraus antikváriumtól. Brooker kivételesen pazar könyvtárát Sotheby árverezte el, jelen példány a "Bibliotheca Brookeriana: A Renaissance Library Part VII" 2025-ös árverés 1753. tételeként szerepelt. Brooker régi könyvgyűjteménye az egyik legjelentősebb és értékesebb könyvtár volt, ami valaha árverésre került 2023 és 2025 között.

First editions of two major contributions to the history of bibliography:

First edition of Lomeier's significant work on the history of libraries, their organization from biblical times to the period of publication, including an excellent study of the best libraries of the epoch. Other sections address enemies of books, famous librarians, and anecdotes extracted from various relevant authors throughout history, including some in Greek. Lomeier (1636–1699) was a pastor of Zutphen.

First editions of the first two parts of this first Italian literary and bibliographical periodical, here with dedicatory letter of a controversial theologian cancelled. The letter (a photocopy is laid in) is addressed to Enrico Noris (1631–1704) the author of 'historia Pelagiana', in which he discussed Augustine's view on grace amidst the anti-Jansenist controversy. The book, which went through several editions, was not permitted publication in France and was condemned by the Inquisition in Spain. In Italy there were many threats but without effect. Giovanni Cinelli Calvoli (1625-1706), an intimate in the Florentine circle of Magliabecchi and student of Torricelli and Viviani, left many projects unfinished due to chronic poverty and bankruptcy. The publication history of the present series (18 scanzie in all) was nothing short of anarchic: later volumes appeared before earlier ones, and places of printing were scattered among every major city in Italy.

Provenance: Late-nineteenth-century armorial bookplate with conjoined arms of Plettenberg and Esterházy de Galántha of Nordkirchen Castle in Westphalia on the front pastedown. Count Ferdinand de Plettenberg's famous library was housed in the castle of Nordkirchen near Münster, Westphalia. His descendant, Countess Maria de Plettenberg-Mietingen (1809–1861), was married in 1833 to Count Miklós Ferenc Esterházy von Galántha (1804–1885), hereditary Count of Forchtenstein, who was the Imperial and Royal Chamberlain and Member of the Imperial Council in Vienna. The family, including their three sons, resided in Vienna and at Schloss Nordkirchen, among other places.
Reiss & Auvermann, sale number 47, 7 April 1992, lot 37—H.P. Kraus, Catalogue 197, no. 123. With the ex libris of Thomas Kimball Brooker present, but not glued in. Acquisition: Purchased in 1994 from H.P. Kraus, New York. Brooker’s exceptionally magnificent library was auctioned by Sotheby’s; this copy featured as lot 1753 in the 2025 auction 'Bibliotheca Brookeriana: A Renaissance Library Part VII'. Brooker’s collection of rare books was one of the most significant and valuable libraries ever to come to auction between 2023 and 2025.
