A szerző a történelmi Magyarország egyik legszebb vidékét, a Vág folyó völgyét járta be, Liptóújvártól a torkolatig. A táj leírása mellett a helységek történelmét, néprajzi és gazdasági viszonyait is bemutatja, a bécsi Fischer professzor rajzait felhasználva. A 12 merített papírra nyomott, hártyapapírral védett aquatinta illusztrációt J. W. Schlotterbeck véste lemezre. Képméret: 13 × 19 cm.
 

A művet illusztráló 12 tábla a Vág folyó partján fekvő településeket mutatja be: Podhragy - Rosenberg - Hradek - Gegend unter Kerbelany - Markitta - Óvár - Strecschen - Jllawa - Betzkó - Luka - Bäder in Pischtyan - Sered. Második bővített kiadása 1844-ben jelent meg már 16 táblával, ám amazt már olcsóbb, kónyomatos illusztrációk díszítik. A szerző báró Mednyánszky Alajos (1784–1844) magyar királyi belső titkos tanácsos, Nyitra vármegye főispánja, író, történész, az MTA tiszteletbeli tagja, a 19. századi iskolarendszer egyik reformere volt. Ez a munkája, a Festői utazás a Vágvölgyében a megbecsült magyarországi illusztrált útikönyvek közé tartozik. Szlovákul 1962-ben, magyarul csak 1981-ben jelent meg.


Eredeti állapotban, kiadói gerincén enyhén sérült kartonkötésben, az első táblára ragasztott címvignettával. Levelei és a metszetek is helyenként foltosak. Összességében kivánatos példány.

The author travelled through one of the most beautiful regions of historic Hungary, the valley of the Váh (Vág) River, from Liptóújvár to its confluence. In addition to describing the landscape, he also presents the history, ethnographic characteristics, and economic conditions of the settlements, using drawings by Professor Fischer of Vienna. The 12 aquatint illustrations, printed on handmade paper and protected with tissue guards, were engraved on copper plates by J. W. Schlotterbeck. Image size: 13 × 19 cm.

The 12 plates illustrating the work depict settlements along the banks of the Váh River: Podhragy (Podhradie) – Rosenberg (Ružomberok) – Hradek (okres Klatovy) – Gegend unter Kerbelany (Krpeľany) – Markitta – Óvár (Olováry - Starý hrad) – Strecschen (Strečno) – Jllawa (Illava) – Betzkó (Beckov) – Luka (Lúka) – Bäder in Pischtyan (Piešťany) – Sered (Sereď).

The second, expanded edition was published in 1844 with 16 plates; however, these were decorated with cheaper lithographic illustrations.

The author, Baron Mednyánszky Alajos (1784–1844), was a Hungarian royal privy councillor, Lord Lieutenant (főispán) of Nyitra County, writer, historian, honorary member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and one of the reformers of the 19th-century Hungarian educational system.

This work, Festői utazás a Vágvölgyében (Picturesque Journey in the Valley of the Váh), is considered one of Hungary's esteemed illustrated travel books. It was published in Slovak in 1962 and in Hungarian only in 1981.

In the publisher’s printed boards, the spine slightly worn/damaged, with a title vignette mounted on the front cover. Leaves and plates somewhat spotted in places.
