A horvát hadsereg 1848. szeptemberi magyarországi betörését ábrázoló metszet leleményes szerkesztéssel érzékelteti az 1848–49-es forradalom és szabadságharc az első jelentős összecsapásába torkolló pákozdi csata kiváltotta katonai következményeit, túl erkölcsi, politikai hatását: míg elől a horvát hadsereg és tisztjei fiesztával ünneplik az ellenállás nélküli győzelmes eseményt, a kép felső részében a feldúlt és lángba borított terület és lakói szenvedései látszanak.

A cím jelezve 4 nyelven (német, magyar, olasz, cseh) a kép körül, az alkotó, Vinzenz Katzler (1823–1882) osztrák festő, grafikus, jelezve balra lent. A metszet Ziegler, Anton: Vaterländische Bilder-Chronik aus der Geschichte des österreichischen Kaiserstaates: von seinen ältesten Bewohnern bis auf die gegenwärtige Zeit / nach den besten Hilfsquellen bearb. u. d mit Original-Handzeichnungen ausgestattet von -- (Wien, 1850. The engraving depicting the Croatian army's incursion into Hungary in September 1848 conveys with ingenious composition the military consequences of the events leading up to the Battle of Pákozd—the first major clash of the Revolution and War of Independence of 1848–49—beyond its moral and political impact: while in the foreground, the Croatian army and its officers celebrate their unopposed victory with a fiesta, the upper part of the image shows the suffering of the inhabitants and the devastated territory engulfed in flames.
The title is provided in four languages (German, Hungarian, Italian, and Czech) along the four sides of the image. The print is plate number 33 from the second part of Anton Ziegler’s Vaterländische Bilder-Chronik aus der Geschichte des österreichischen Kaiserstaates (Patriotic Pictorial Chronicle from the History of the Austrian Imperial State), published by Benko in Vienna, 1850. This second part contains a description of the 1848–1849 events in Hungary, illustrated with 28 cityscapes (including Buda, Buda and Pest, Bratislava, Prague, Vienna, Belgrade, Trieste, Graz, Innsbruck, etc.), as well as 56 historical genre scenes and battle paintings.
