Saltatoriae domus in arcis propugnaculo tempus [Nagy udvari bál II. Miksa császár udvarának dísztermében]
1560A korábban az „FA” monogramista (névjelzést használó, de ismeretlen alkotó) neve alatt nyilvántartott lap először 1560-ban jelent meg latin és német kiadásban Bécsben: Thurnier Buch Warhafftiger Ritterlichen Thate[n], so in dem Monat Junij des vergangnen LX Jars in und ausserhalb der Statt Wien zu Rosz und zu Fuesz ... gehalten worden. Szerzője a burgundi származású Francolin János, I. Ferdinánd magyar heroldja. V. Károly német-római császár 1519-es megválasztásakor a Habsburg Birodalom heroldjai a Teuschlad, Germania hivatali nevet viselték. A császár a hivatallal 1545-ben bízta meg Romreich, alias Jean Francolint. 1560-ban hívták meg a bécsi udvarba. Ekkor lett magyar királyi herold. 1562-ben I. Ferdinándtól birtokot és telket kapott szélmalmok létesítésére.
A keret mérete 59×68 cm.
At the court ball, the procession of dancing couples was opened by four trumpeters, followed by the imperial, the Hungarian, and the Bohemian heralds. Then, two gentlemen led in a Hungarian maiden of exceptional beauty and noble birth (eximiae pulchritudinis, nobilissimisque ortam. parentibus Tschuramin nomine); this was followed by two torchbearers, and then the distinguished participants of the dance in pairs. The Hungarian participants in the festivities were not present in large numbers; their names were: Elek Thurzó, Ferenc Révai and his brother János, Péter Keglevich, János Gersei Pethő, János Gyulay, Gábor Mailáth, one of the Dóczys, Pál Laki Bakics, and Farkas Balassa. As the picture shows, these gentlemen did not participate in the dancing. Perhaps we are on the right track if we assume this Hungarian "queen of the ball" to be a female member of the Devecseri Csoron family, which played a prominent role during this period.
The highly detailed work of court artist Francesco Terzio not only depicts an event, but also serves as an important historical document.
Clean imprint, with visible fold marks, in a passe-partout and framed. The frame measures 59 × 68 cm.
