Kötetünk a mű még "megtisztítatlan" verziója – 1562-ben ugyanis az "Index expurgatorius"' bizottsága elrendelte a szöveg cenzúráját, "megtisztítását" azoktól a szövegrészektől, melyeket a katolikus hittel szembemenőnek ítéltek. Az egyház az új változat 1575-ös megjelenése után nem engedélyezte más kiadás használatát. A szennylapokon, címlapon korabeli posszesszori és egyéb rövid, tintás bejegyzések. Erasmus' monumental collection of Greek-Latin proverbs. This popular work provided an insight into the classical world in an easy-to-follow form, and became an indispensable school book. Our volume is the "uncleaned" version of the work - in 1562, the "Index expurgatorius" committee ordered the text to be censored and "cleaned" of those parts that were deemed to be against the Catholic faith. After the publication of this new version in 1575, the church did not allow the use of any other edition. Contemporary poss. notes and other short ink entries on the fly leaves and title page.
