Hadrianus Junius (1511-1575), más néven Adriaen de Jonghe holland orvos, klasszika-filológus, fordító, lexikográfus, antikvitáskutató, történetíró, emblemakészítő, iskolarektor és latin költő volt .Az 1550-es években Junius művei különböző bázeli nyomdáknál jelentek meg. Annak ellenére, hogy 1554-ben tűz ütött ki a dolgozószobájában, ami "hónapok, ha nem évek munkájába került", 1556-ban megjelent a klasszikus irodalomhoz fűzött filológiai megjegyzések kusza gyűjteménye: az Animadversa. Granvelle-nek ajánlotta, és oldalain többször is tiszteleg Granvelle titkára, az antikvárius Antoine Morillon előtt. Az Animadversához csatolták a De coma commentarium (A hajról való kommentár) című hosszú értekezést, egy paradox encomiumot, amelyet állítólag az Itáliában elfogadott rövid olasz hajviseletről szóló kritikával dacolva írt. Jelen példányunk e egyben megjelent műveknek első kiadása.

Hadrianus Junius (1511-1575), also known as Adriaen de Jonghe, was a Dutch physician, classical philologist, translator, lexicographer, antiquarian, historian, emblemist, school rector and Latin poet. In the 1550s, Junius' works were published by various Basel printers, despite a fire in his study in 1554, which 'cost him months, if not years of work'. in 1556, he published a tangled collection of philological commentaries on classical literature, the Animadversa. He dedicated it to Granvelle, and in its pages, he repeatedly pays tribute to Granvelle's secretary, the antiquarian Antoine Morillon. The Animadversa was accompanied by a long treatise entitled De coma commentarium (Commentary on Hair), a paradoxical encomium that he wrote, supposedly in defiance of the criticism of the short Italian hairstyle accepted in Italy. The present copy is the first edition of these published works.

Later full leather binding, raised bands and richly gilt spine. One flyleaf and the corner of the title-page cut out (no loss of text), otherwise a nice, clean copy. Eighth fold.
