A mű XIII. Lajos francia király (1601–1643) és Anna osztrák infánsnő (1601–1666) diadalmas bevonulását írja le Lyonba. A bevonulást reprezentáló díszítések témája a király nappal történő összehasonlítása volt. Ahogy a nap, a bolygók ura, végigutazza a zodiákus birodalmát, úgy a király is meglátogatja királysága különböző városait (itt Lyon-t), amelyet az Oroszlán csillagkép véd. Érdekes módon, az összehasonlítás később még inkább teret nyert, és örökre összekapcsolódott XIV. Lajossal, a Napkirállyal.

The work describes the triumphal entry into Lyon of Louis XIII, King of France (1601-1643), and Anna of Austria, Spanish Infanta (1601-1666). The theme of the decorations for the entry was the comparison of the king to the sun. As the sun, the lord of the planets, travels through the realm of the zodiac, so to the king visits the various cities of his kingdom (here Lyon), protected by the sign of Leo. Interestingly, this comparison to the sun would later become amplified and forever associated with his son Louis XIV, the Sun King.

The work describes King Louis XIII’s reception at the Jesuit College followed by wonderful firework displays depicted in some of the engravings.
