Magdeburg, Johann Daniel Müller. 1702. [Sammelband]

330 + 118 + [31] + 44 p.

The book gives a detailed account of the highlights of Magdeburg, the capital city of Sachsen-Anhalt, illustrated with 17 copper engravings and 8 woodcut plates. Published in 1702, it is not only a description of a city, but the folk beliefs of its time also unfold throughout the pages. It relates that the cell of the Augustinian friary where Martin Luther once lived, was still visible as it survived the sack of the city in 1631 – clearly, a rather interesting addition to the legends and folk tales regarding the incombustible belongings or even portraits of Luther, circulating throughout the 16–17th centuries.

It was published together with two other works, the Vota devota publica Magdeburgensia and Heinrich Merckel’s Warhaffter Bericht on the seige of Magdeburg (the latter's title page is missing).

Bound together with: Westphal, Joachim Christian: Tractatio philologico-historica de insignibus Magdeburgi. Halle an der Saale, apud Johannem Christianum Hendelium, 1729.

Vellum binding, in good condition.

Prov.: Ex libris of Johann Konrad Feuerlein (1725–1788), lawyer, banker and councillor of Nürnberg.
