Turcicum Imperium

Az Oszmán Birodalom térképe, amely A Szent Liga háborúja (1683-1699) előtti állapotot mutatja be. A térképen a birodalom a Földközi-tenger keleti részétől, Görögországtól és Olaszországtól nyugaton Szaúd-Arábiáig, a Perzsa-öbölig és a Kaszpi-tengerig terjedt keleten, Törökországgal és Ciprussal a középpontban (lásd még: Közel-Kelet, Szentföld, Kis-Ázsia). A díszes kartus pazar török stílusú ruhába öltözött alakokat ábrázol.

Példányunk a térkép első állapotát (a kettőből) ábrázolja, amelyen csak a metsző, Johannes Lhuilier neve szerepel a jobb alsó sarokban. A térképészet szempontjából ez az állapot a „Tripoli Regnum” feltüntetése előtt készült, és más határvonal-konfigurációt mutat, mint a térkép második verziója, amelyen már De Wit aláírása is szerepel. De Wit volt kora vezető holland térképgyártója, miután Blaeu cége 1672-ben hanyatlani kezdett.

A remarkable map of the Ottoman Empire, illustrating the status quo just before the Great Turkish War (1683–1699), a pivotal moment that shifted the balance of power between the empire and Europe. The map shows the Empire spanning from the Eastern Mediterranean, Greece, and Italy in the west to Saudi Arabia, the Persian Gulf, and the Caspian Sea in the east, with Turkey and Cyprus at its center (see also: Middle East, Holy Land, Asia Minor). The ornate cartouche showcases figures dressed in elaborate Turkish attire.

Our specimen represents the first state (of two) of the map, featuring only the engraver's name, Johannes Lhuilier, at the bottom right. In terms of cartography, this state predates the inclusion of "Tripoli Regnum" and displays a different boundary configuration compared to the second state of the map, which also had the signature of De Wit, the leading Dutch map producer after Blaeu's firm started to decline in 1672.
