Unique burgundy velvet binding with richly gilt edges. With royal-blue silk endpapers. On the corners of the front board, stylized, gilt silver stamped crowns. In the centre, the meticulously elaborate coat of arms of the Bulgarian Empire (1881–1927), decorated with enamelled flags. On a gold and red ground three lions with crowns. Inlaid with a silk bookmark in Bulgarian national colours, edged with leather and embroidered with the Bulgarian coat of arms. With an exceptional provenance: bound in the volume is an ornate, gilt, calligraphic autographic dedication in Bulgarian, painted in several colours, "For the library of His Majesty Alexander I, Prince of Bulgaria." On the backboard, more modestly decorated stands the name of M. Atanaskovich, the publisher of the volume. Alexander I, Prince of Bulgaria (Bulgarian: Алекса̀ндър I Български, 1857–1893), born Prince Alexander Joseph von Battenberg, was the elected Prince of Bulgaria from 1879 to 1886. He was the nephew of the Russian Tsar Alexander II. In 1878, Bulgaria became an autonomous principality under the rule of the Ottoman Empire, and Alexander II offered his nephew, the prince who had been a candidate for the Bulgarian crown, as ruler of the newly formed country. Alexander's absolutist ambitions were unsuccessful, and after a turbulent domestic political situation, external attacks and a coup d'état by his own officers, he was forced to abdicate in 1886.

Középen az aprólékos kidolgozottságú Bolgár Cárság (1881–1927) tűzzománcozott zászlókkal ékesített címere. Arany és vörös alapon három ágaskodó oroszlán koronákkal. Belehelyezve a bolgár nemzeti színű, szélein bőrrel szegett selyem könyvjelző, ráhímezve a bolgár címer. Zoológia tankönyv a gimnáziumok alsó osztályai számára. Kétnyelvű címlappal, a szöveg közt gazdag (524) fametszetes illusztrációs anyaggal. Kivételes provenienciával: a kötetbe kötve egy díszes, aranyozott, kalligrafikus, több színnel festett kéziratos bolgár nyelvű ajánlás: "Őfelsége I. Sándor Bulgária fejedelmének könyvtára számára." A hátsó táblán szerényebb díszítéssel M. Atanaszkovics, a kötet kiadójának nevével. I. Sándor bolgár fejedelem (bolgárul: Алекса̀ндър I Български, 1857–1893), született Alexander Joseph von Battenberg herceg, 1879–1886 között Bulgária megválasztott fejedelme, II. Sándor orosz cár unokaöccse volt. 1878-ban Bulgáriából önálló, autonóm fejedelemség lett az Oszmán Birodalom fennhatósága alatt, II. Sándor pedig unokaöccsét, a bolgár koronára pályázó herceget ajánlotta az újonnan megalakult ország uralkodójául. Sándor abszolutisztikus törekvései nem jártak sikerrel, a zavaros belpolitikai helyzet, külső támadás és saját tisztjeinek puccsa után 1886-ban kénytelen volt lemondani. Unikális darab.
