An excellent early map of Australia, highlighting the recent explorations of Eyre, Frome, Grey, Stokes, Leichhardt, and Strzelecki. The majority of the continent remains uncharted, with large blank areas. Published by the Geographical Institute of Weimar.

The map features four inset maps: New South Wales, Port Jackson and Sydney, Melville Island, and the Colony of South Australia.

Kiepert, who led the Institute for several years, was a professor of geography at the University of Berlin and a specialist in ancient historical cartography. While he had a particular focus on Asia Minor, he also created a significant number of maps covering other regions for educational purposes.
