A detailed map of the eastern United States, with colored border markings dividing the states into categories: New England states, Middle states, Central states, Coastal states, Northwest states, the District of Columbia, as well as territories and British possessions. A legend, along with explanations of symbols and abbreviations, is located at the bottom left. The title, accompanied by the note "Bearbeitet von C. Gräf" and a mile marker, appears in the upper margin.

In the bottom right corner, a circular inset plan of New York is included. Below the map illustration, the credit "Situation u. Schrift v. Th. Luther" appears on the left, "Terrain v. C. Poppey jun." on the right, and "Weimar, Geographisches Institut" in the center.

Kiepert, who led the Institute for several years, was a professor of geography at the University of Berlin and a specialist in ancient historical cartography. While he had a particular focus on Asia Minor, he also created a significant number of maps covering other regions for educational purposes.
