Sándor orosz cár unokaöccse volt.

Erbach grófjának 1617 elején Máltára tett utazását, a szigeten való tartózkodását és megfigyeléseit, valamint az azt követő tunéziai fogságát. Könyvét számos szerző - és neves történészek is - idézik, mint elsődleges forrást a XVII. század elejére vonatkozóan. Ám a Máltára vonatkozó adatokat csak kiadványa hátteréül használta, és kiegészítette őket jó adag saját értelmezéssel és információkkal, amelyeket modern kiadványokból vett át. The volume was dedicated to Prince Alexander I of Bulgaria and, as the date of the dedication indicates, well before its official publication. Prince Alexander of Bulgaria (Алекса̀ндър I Български ; Verona,1857 - Graz, 1893), born Prince Alexander Joseph von Battenberg, was the elected Prince of Bulgaria from 1879 to 1886, and nephew of Alexander II, Tsar of Russia.
The author of this work was an archivist in the service of the Counts of Erbach. Kraus describes in detail the journey of the young Count Georg Albrecht of Erbach to Malta in early 1617, his stay and observations on the island, and his subsequent imprisonment in Tunisia. In publisher's bibliophilic half vellum binding, with richly gilt spine, labels, and red edge-painting around the edges.
