Schönwisner István (1738 – 1818) régész, egyetemi tanár, nagyváradi kanonok. Latin és német nyelvű munkái a magyarországi tudományos régészet alapvető forrásainak számítanak, érem- és pénzkatalógusai pedig maradandó tudományos értékkel bírnak. Schönwisner úttörő szerepet játszott a római provinciák hazai régészetének megalapozásában, és az ő irányításával zajlottak az első tudományos célú ásatások Magyarországon – ezek során fedezte fel Aquincum romjait Óbudán.
Korabeli, aranyozott gerincű, enyhén kopottas félbőr kötésben, bőr címvignettával. Az első három lap alján kisebb folt, a 291. olda alján apró hiány. Jó állapotban.
István Schönwisner (1738 – 1818) was an archaeologist, university professor, and canon of Nagyvárad. His Latin and German works rank among the foundational sources of scientific archaeology in Hungary, while his catalogues of coins and medals retain lasting scholarly value. Schönwisner played a pioneering role in establishing the study of Roman provincial archaeology in Hungary; under his direction, the first excavations conducted for scientific purposes took place, during which he discovered the ruins of Aquincum in Óbuda, Hungary.
