Ázsia látványos rézmetszetű „carte-a-figures” térképe, amelyet Jodocus Hondius (1563–1612), vagy másképpen idősebb Jodocus Hondius flamand művész, rézkarcoló és térképész készített saját, csupán négy évvel korábban, 1619-ben közreadott munkája alapján, kartográfiailag Blaeu fólióira támaszkodva. A térképmezőt övező díszes barokk keretdísz felül és alul hat-hat városképet, a két oldalon pedig öt-öt képen ázsiai népcsoportok viseleteit jeleníti meg, azonban – mivel tételünket feltehetően kompozit-atlaszba kötötték – a metszet kilógó részét a jobb oldalon behajtották, a hajtásvonal mentén leszakadt jobb oldali bordűrsáv megsemmisült (emiatt a szélső várospanorámák is sérültek). A metsző feltehetően ebben az esetben is Pieter van den Keere volt, akinek a nevéhez a többi kontinens ezzel egyidőben született ábrázolásai is fűződnek. Az előző változatnál használt térképmezőt díszítő, a viseleteket bemutató alakok metszetvignettáinak és a címmező kartusának tükörképét alkalmazta, valamint a jobb felső részen az impresszumot új, letisztultabb formavilágú kartusba helyezte. Példányunk az öt változatban ismert metszet második állapota, kiadóként Jan Jansson neve van feltüntetve. (Hereditas 16/173)

A spectacular copperplate engraving of Asia, a "carte-a-figures" map created by Flemish artist, engraver, and cartographer Jodocus Hondius (1563–1612), based on his own work published just four years earlier, in 1619, relying on Blaeu's folios for cartography. The ornate Baroque frame surrounding the map field shows six cityscapes at the top and bottom, and five images on each side depicting the costumes of Asian ethnic groups. However, since our item was presumably bound into a composite atlas, the protruding part of the engraving on the right side was folded in, torn off, and destroyed (as a result, the city panoramas on the edges were also damaged). The engraver was probably Pieter van den Keere, whose name is also associated with depictions of other continents created at the same time. He used mirror images of the vignettes depicting figures in traditional dress that adorned the map field in the previous version, as well as the title cartouche, and placed the imprint in the upper right corner in a new, cleaner-looking cartouche. Our copy is the second version of the engraving known in five versions, with Jan Jansson listed as the publisher.
