Az első összkiadás, amely Knolles „General History of the Turks” című művének hatodik kiadását tartalmazza (első kiadás: 1603) az első két kötetben. A II. kötet tartalmazza továbbá a mű 1623-ig terjedő folytatásait… Továbbá megtalálható benne Rycaut folytatásának második kiadása is, amely először 1680-ban jelent meg „AThe History of the Turkish Empire, from the year 1623 to the year 1677” címmel, valamint fontos műve, „Present State of the Ottoman Empire”.

Rycaut a munkát egy egykötetes pótlással egészítette ki, amely 1679–1699 eseményeit részletezi, és itt jelenik meg először (III. kötet). Rycaut történeti írása méltó kiegészítése Knolles nagy munkájának, olyan kiadásban, amely egyesíti azt a két szerzőt, akik az angol irodalmi világban leginkább összeforrtak Törökországgal (Blackmer). First collected edition, containing in the first two volumes the sixth edition of Knolles’ General History of the Turks (first published in 1603). Volume II also includes the continuations of the work up to the year 1623. Furthermore, it contains the second edition of Rycaut’s continuation—first issued in 1680 as The History of the Turkish Empire, from the year 1623 to the year 1677—as well as his important Present State of the Ottoman Empire.

Rycaut completed the enterprise with a one-volume supplement covering the years 1679–1699 in extensive detail, here published for the first time (Volume III). Rycaut’s history stands as a fitting complement to Knolles’ monumental work, in an edition that brings together the two writers most closely associated in the English literary world with the history of Turkey (Blackmer).

The plates include portraits of Knolles and Rycaut; the Ottoman sultans (23 in total, as Mohammed IV appears twice); and portraits of Tekeli and Apti Pasha. One plate depicts a nahil or “wishing-tree.”

All three volumes present here complete, uniformly bound in later half calf with gilt titles and new endpapers. A well-preserved, clean set of this substantial and meticulous historical compilation, enriched with significant portrait illustrations. Three different pasted ex-libris marks appear on the verso of the plates: William Pole, Newburyport Library, and Hermann Buchhold. Folio (38.5 × 24.5 cm).
