Maurice de Saxe grófja (1696–1750) tábornok és katonai teoretikus volt, aki sikerre vezette a francia hadseregeket az osztrák örökösödési háború (1740–48) idején. A gróf könyve első fejezetében áttekinti mindazokat a tényezőket és elemeket, amelyek a sikeres hadviseléshez szükségesek — az egyenruháktól az élelmezésig és a stratégiáig — egyszerű, világos és érthető stílusban. Ezt követi az emberi faj szaporodásáról szóló fejezet, amelynek célja az volt, hogy ellensúlyt képezzen a népességek pusztításának "művészetével" szemben; a szerző megosztja gondolatait a demográfiai növekedésről és annak előmozdítási módjairól.

Korabeli, bordázott, aranyozott gerincű egészbőr kötésben, piros címvignettával. A XII. tábla ábrája kivágva, kettő táblán apró szakadás. Ezt leszámítva nagyon szép példány.

Maurice, count de Saxe (1696-1750) was a general and military theorist who successfully led French armies during the War of the Austrian Succession (1740-48). The Count reviews all the factors and elements necessary for fruitful warfare, from uniforms to food to strategy, in a simple, clear, and intelligible style. This is followed by a chapter on the propagation of the human species, intended to counterbalance the art of destroying populations; the author shares his thoughts on demographic proliferation and ways of increasing it. The term “rêveries” refers not to the modern sense of ramblings, but to that of hopes realized and secret thoughts.
Contemporary full leather binding with raised bands and richly gilt ornate to spine. Out of the 35 copper engravings, n. XII is cut out. Otherwise, a beautiful copy.
